FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is PasteTemp and how does it work?
PasteTemp is a temporary and secure paste sharing platform. You create a paste by entering your content on the home page, selecting an expiration time (1 minute to 1 hour), and optionally adding password protection. Once created, you receive a unique link to share. The paste automatically deletes after expiration.
Is PasteTemp really anonymous and secure?
Yes. PasteTemp requires no account for basic paste creation. We do not log IP addresses for anonymous pastes. All paste content is encrypted in your browser with AES-256-GCM before transmission, and the decryption key never touches our servers. Optional password protection (hashed with scrypt) adds an extra layer of security for sensitive content.
How does paste self-destruction work?
When creating a paste, you choose an expiration duration: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 1 hour. Once the time expires, the paste is permanently deleted from our servers. There is no recovery option after expiration, ensuring your content truly disappears.
What file types and content does PasteTemp support?
PasteTemp supports code snippets in any programming language, plain text, configuration files, logs, JSON, YAML, and more. The content is stored as text with syntax highlighting support for over 50 programming languages.
Is there a limit on how many pastes I can create?
Free users can create up to 3 pastes per day. The Monthly Basic plan (€5/month) allows 40 pastes per day. Annual (€44.99/year) and Lifetime (€99.99) plans offer unlimited paste creation.
How does password protection work?
Password protection is a premium feature that lets you set a password on your paste. Viewers must enter the correct password to access the content. The password is hashed with scrypt before storage and verified server-side — even we cannot recover it if lost.
Is PasteTemp GDPR compliant?
Yes. PasteTemp is fully GDPR compliant. All data is hosted in European data centers. We do not share personal data with third parties. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Do you offer an API for developers?
Yes. PasteTemp offers a REST API for developers. You can create, retrieve, and manage pastes programmatically. API key authentication is available for premium users. Visit our API test page to explore the endpoints.
How does encryption work on PasteTemp?
Every paste is encrypted in your browser using AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption before it ever reaches our servers. The encryption key stays in the URL fragment (after #) and is never transmitted to us — meaning we cannot decrypt your content even if we wanted to. All network traffic is also protected with TLS 1.3 in transit.
What is the maximum paste size?
Free users can create pastes up to 1 MB. Premium plans offer up to 10 MB per paste, supporting larger code files, logs, and documents. There is no limit on the number of characters for premium users beyond the file size limit.
What happens if my paste expires before the recipient reads it?
Once a paste expires, it is permanently deleted from our servers and cannot be recovered by anyone, including our team. The recipient will see a message indicating the paste no longer exists. We recommend choosing an appropriate expiration duration based on when you expect the recipient to view it, or using a longer expiration window for time-zone differences.
Can I use PasteTemp for commercial purposes?
Yes. PasteTemp can be used for commercial purposes, including sharing code within development teams, client communications, and CI/CD pipeline integrations via our API. Business and enterprise teams benefit from our premium plans, which offer higher paste limits, password protection, and priority support for professional workflows.
